Alcântara Dock

Located near Cais do Sodré, right next to the Santo Amaro Recreational Dock.

The Alcântara Dock is a pillar of Lisbon’s commercial history. Developed at the end of the 19th century and extensively modernized throughout the 20th century, it was the city’s main gateway for goods. Its strategic location, with excellent rail access and depth (draft), made it vital.

This is a mixed-use infrastructure. It maintains a significant commercial function, housing the Alcântara Container Terminal, which receives medium-sized cargo ships. In parallel, the Alcântara Recreational Dock offers moorings for pleasure craft, serving as a transition between the commercial area and the Santo Amaro leisure zone (both managed by APL).

Current Function: Hybrid. Commercial container logistics and a recreational marina, river tourism, and nautical events, with an estimated capacity for around 376 vessels. It also stands out for its riverside terraces, bars, and cultural spaces, making it an urban leisure hub.
