Sul e Sueste River Station

Terreiro do Paço (Praça do Comércio), next to Doca da Marinha.

Designed by architect Cottinelli Telmo and inaugurated on May 28, 1932, this station is a landmark of Portuguese modernism. Historically, it served as the vital interface between Lisbon and the railway network in Barreiro (South Bank). After decades of underuse, it underwent extensive rehabilitation, reopening in 2021 with its original design restored.

It does not function as an overnight marina, but rather as a Maritime-Tourism Hub. It has pontoons dedicated to river tourism operators and public transport (connection to Barreiro via Soflusa catamarans).

It continues to be a vital terminal for regular river connections between Lisbon and Barreiro.

Current Function: The Station, rehabilitated and reopened in 2021, has regained its monumental dignity and is Lisbon’s nautical “Entrance Hall,” serving a dual purpose:

Tourism: It houses the Tejo Center and operator ticket offices, being the main prestigious departure point for river excursions, due to its central location at Terreiro do Paço.
