On March 9, 2025, Lisbon hosted the 34th edition of the iconic EDP Half Marathon, an event that once again brought together thousands of participants and athletics fans from all over the world.

Lisbon Half Marathon on the 25 de Abril Bridge

Marathons are increasingly a trend in Lisbon, and that’s spreading a bit across the rest of the country. With a unique setting, where the crossing of the 25 de Abril Bridge is the highlight, the race stood out for its impeccable organisation, massive turnout and, of course, stunning views over the Tagus and the Portuguese capital. Next, we’ll tell you how another Lisbon Half Marathon on the 25 de Abril Bridge unfolded.

A one-of-a-kind event in the world

The Lisbon Half Marathon is the only race that allows athletes to cross the 25 de Abril Bridge on foot, offering a truly unforgettable experience.

With a 9:30 AM start, just after the bridge tolls, the 21.095 km course stood out for its flat layout, ideal for record times. Over the years, this race has seen historic performances, cementing its place as one of the fastest half marathons in the world.

10 km alternative

For those who didn’t yet feel ready for the half marathon, the 10 km race was an alternative. Starting at 10:05 AM, the route took participants from the 25 de Abril Bridge to the triumphant finish at Praça do Império, in front of the Jerónimos Monastery.

Participation and benefits during the race

Registration for both races included a range of benefits that enhanced the participants’ experience. In addition to the technical T-shirt and race bag, runners enjoyed free transport in Lisbon and on the south bank, refreshments along the route, insurance, a finisher medal and, in the case of the half marathon, official timing and a certificate.

The impact of the event

The Lisbon Half Marathon is a sporting event that celebrates the city, togetherness and sport. This year, thousands of runners of various nationalities not only tested their limits, but also took the chance to enjoy Lisbon, even though the weather wasn’t at its best.

With such a landmark event, the countdown to the 35th edition has already begun. If you missed the chance to take part this year, keep an eye out so you don’t miss the next marathon on the 25 de Abril Bridge and experience the privilege of running on this bridge.
